Ectodermal dysplasia is the name given to a group of relatively uncommon inherited disorders of the ectoderm, the embryonic material that develops into the skin, hair, teeth, nails and sweat and oil glands of the skin. Children with this disorder — and there are more than 120 types — often have very dry, pale skin, with wispy, sparse hair that has very little color.
