If you have an upset stomach, there is a natural remedy that can help. Learn about the properties of ginger, and how to make a soothing tea.
You have probably suffered from an upset stomach at times. Pregnancy with its attendant morning sickness can cause nausea for some, while travel can cause stomach woes for others. Even a nervous stomach can spoil your whole morning (or day) and you wonder, ”What can I do?”
Ginger to the Rescue
There is a home remedy used in many Asian countries that may work wonders for you very quickly. That remedy is ginger. Ginger has long been known for its calming affect on an upset stomach and for its blood thinning qualities. And not too many years ago, many American mothers gave ginger ale to kids with flu-like symptoms.
Ginger Tea
The best way to drink ginger is as a tea. You can find ginger tea in any Oriental grocery store. It is also available on the market in granule form. This granule tea comes in a foil pouch that can be tucked in a purse or briefcase in case of an emergency. But suppose you can’t find granulated ginger tea. What do you do?
Home Brew
Here’s how to make your own tea.
* Buy ginger root at your local supermarket and grate it.
* Wrap the grated ginger in fine cheesecloth and wrap it tightly to make a tea ball. If you don’t have cheesecloth then put the ginger in a Melita filter.
* Put your homemade tea ball into a cup filled with hot water and let it seep. Careful, the longer you let the ginger seep the stronger and spicier it gets. You may want to try different strengths until you find one that is suitable for you. If you use a Melita filter keep pouring the cup back through until the desired strength. You can always add more hot water if you find the tea is too strong.
* After you find the right strength for your tea, add honey or brown sugar, and sip it slowly. Within minutes you will notice your feels better.
Of course, the easiest way is finding granulated ginger tea. Ask around and you just may find the perfect remedy for your upset stomach.
